Jun 8Is Open BlueDragon Losing Momentum?

I know this is purely speculation, but I have to wonder if that with resignation of Sean (angered by Vince et al .... again) and Mark ("defecting" to Railo), that OBD is losing momentum? Maybe I'm reading too much into these two resignations that came so close together. Still, I would think that two of their highest profile champions bailing out signals, at least to a lot of people who pay attention to the CF blogosphere, that something is not right with the ship. Maybe I am reading too much into this, or maybe it's all really becoming clear. I'll open it up to you: Is Open BlueDragon dying before it can really even get off the ground?

UPDATE: Since posting this, Andy Allan has also resigned.

UPDATE 2: Yet another person has resigned: Mike Brunt has also resigned the steering committee.

Yes. I believe that OpenBD has lost any chance of gaining wide support in the CF community. I assume that it will still provide an option for new users looking to deploy small applications via CF - but I don't see it expanding beyond that because of the defections this week.

Maybe I was wrong in the title. Maybe it has already LOST the momentum it briefly had. Maybe, just maybe, it's already dead. All these defections coupled with Vince and Alan's PR master strokes are signaling the end to an interesting experiment.

But I suspect that's not the real intent behind your post.

If people are actually interested in what's going on with OpenBD, then join the Google Group, check out http://openbluedragon.org , and read the OpenBD blog.

I posted my response before I saw the other ridiculous responses. I just don't get it. We're all going to benefit from the new open source initiatives in the CFML space, and people are making snap judgments about a project that's only a month old.

I simply can't fathom why people waste their time detracting from the genuine efforts of others, from which we all will benefit.

Again, if you're actually interested in what's REALLY going on with the project, go to the official sources. Any other side comments from people who are hugely uninformed about what's actually going on with the project is just noise.

@Matt I have read the mailing list and I've read the blog. Based on what I've seen on Sean and Mark's sites, I'm just asking the obvious question.

The stance everyone is taking right now is one that OpenBD is sinking and those who have resigned from the steering committee are jumping ship.

Has anyone considered that maybe the wrong people were on the committee in the first place?

Or that maybe certain people were chosen to give it an initial emphasis, with the intention of replacing them when more committed individuals came along?

For example, Nitai's appointment, considering the work he's done with the VMImage etc is absolutely spot on.

I'm just saying that there's probably more tan one reason as to why Mark, Sean, Mike and myself have all left.
