XML forms and CFIMAGE

8 Apr 05:52
I was working with Dan Plesse on an odd issue he had with CF8 Image Captcha's and CFFORM. No matter what he did, he couldn't get the captcha to show up in the form. My first though was a broken CFIDE or some other 'special' folder, but that wasn't the case. If we viewed source on his page, there was no IMG tag at all.

RIA Dev Shed Review (and Files)

8 Apr 04:08
This past Friday I spoke at RIA Dev Shed, a one day RIA-oriented conference held in Salt Lake City. It was organized by Matthew Reinbold (with many sponsors as well) who did a great job and really helped make it easier on the speakers. The conference...

Ask a Jedi: Is my site slow because of Ajax or something else?

8 Apr 00:40
Paul asks: I've been working on a project using Mach-II and Spry, which can be viewed at here. I'm using a Spry master-detail layout on each pages. All of the content is stored in xml files. So, I have Spry datasource configured for each page also. I'm wondering if the slow page loading is related to Mach-II or Spry. The site is running on a shared hosted server (viux.com). If it's related to Spry, then could some of the problem be resolved by pre-loading the data sources somehow.

Update to pdfUtils Component

5 Apr 08:21
I'm happy to announce an update to my pdfUtils component. For folks who don't remember, the pdfUtils component was simply meant to help folks further build upon the awesome PDF support in ColdFusion 8. Todays update comes from Edward EG. Griffiths. He added a new method, readXMP. This allows you to read the XMP data from a PDF. He is currently working on writeXMP. Now what is XMP? I had no idea until Edward explained it to me. XMP is a way to embed metadata within PDFs.

ColdFusion 8.0.1 - Easier to add PDF Watermarks

5 Apr 01:10
ColdFusion 8.0.1 makes it much easier to add watermarks to PDF documents. In the past you had to either use an image or another PDF, but now you can simply pass in text. You can even pass in styled text. Here is a simple example. First we generate a PDF dynamically.

CFFEED Fixes in 8.0.1

4 Apr 21:57
I mentioned yesterday that ColdFusion 8.0.1 fixes issues in CFFEED. Here is a run down of what has been done. The bug concerning gziped sources has been fixed, which is great for people who need to aggregate dynamic feeds. This was probably the biggest bug with cffeed and having it fixed really helps out. I'll still use cfhttp for ColdFusionBloggers though as it gives me finer control over my headers and lets me do more caching. Another odd issue with some feeds, but not others, involves dates.

RIAForge update

4 Apr 01:32
I don't know why I never did this - but today I tweaked the "My Projects" view at RIAForge to be more generic. You can now share your project list with others, and view projects by users as well. For example, here is Rob Gonda's list and here is my l...

The Jedi Punts - Need IE testers

3 Apr 11:15
I've been working with a Lighthouse Pro user today who has discovered a very odd issue. When generating reports (the flash charts version), he got a null pointer error from ColdFusion at the end of the first chart. I opened up Firefox, gave it a w...

Work for the NFL! (ColdFusion Job, and no, not an April Fool's joke)

2 Apr 03:06
The Director of Internet Services for the Indianapolis Colts contacted me with the following (quite exciting I think) job search: The Indianapolis Colts are looking to hire a full time, midlevel ColdFusion programmer. Colts.com is written in ColdFusion and we are interesting in improving the site and adding new features. Other sites they work on include MyColts.net (social networking site) and MyIndianaFootball.com (Indiana high school football site). These sites are written in ASP.

Old School Ray

1 Apr 22:14
I've got a Google Alert set up for my name for purely ego purposes. Normally it just finds my own blog posts. Today though it found something odd: Adobe - Uploads by Raymond Camden This is a listing of all the stuff I uploaded to Dev Exchange. I used to use that site quite heavily back in the Allaire days, but when it they added a Flash front end to it (and it slowed down tremendously) I stopped using it - both as a submitter and a browser.
