Example Mach-II 1.5/ColdSpring application

11 Jul 22:53
Last night I wrote a little application for recording CFUG meeting attendees. Someone on the Mach-II email list was asking for an example of code that would populate a select dropdown list with records retrieved from Gateway objects by way of a Service layer, and I offered this application as an example. If anyone is interested, the code can be downloaded at the link below and is bundled with both the Mach-II framework and ColdSpring.

DFWCFUG needs a new home!

11 Jul 22:45
The Dallas/Ft. Worth ColdFusion User Group has grown in recent months and is looking for a new meeting host that would be better suited to support the group.  If you are in the DFW area and have a meeting location that might be available on the second Tuesday of every month, please check out the post on the DFWCFUG blog.  Thanks!

Railo RC 2.0 is released and WOW!

5 Jul 23:10
The Railo team has announced the release of its 2.0 release candidate, which brings them up to CFMX7 compatibility regarding tags/functions, with a few inconsequential (to us!) exceptions.  Coincidentally the past few days, Aaron and I have been playing with setting up Apache webserver using the jk_mod connector to Tomcat.  Using this setup we have been swapping in all the different CFML processing engines and playing with them as we work on the next big release of InstantSpot.

Circular Dependency Puzzle

28 Jun 06:20
This entry is the equivalent of me talking this problem out publicly. Perhaps by the end of it I will have my solution! Aaron and I are working fast and furiously on InstantSpot behind the scenes so that we can put out a rather large 2.0-ish release in the next couple of months. In the scope of this version we came to the conclusion that it was time to remove Reactor and move to concrete classes.

Odd lingering perception - Mach-II is the 'hard' framework. Really?

27 Jun 22:22
I can't even count the times that I have been in discussions, presentations, BOFs, etc, and heard the following when describing the big 3 ColdFusion frameworks, Fusebox, Model Glue, and Mach-II. "Fusebox is the easiest to learn as you don't have to know OO programming. Model Glue is the next easiest one to grasp. Mach-II is the hardest." Really?

Mach-II 1.5 Beta 1 is released and new website!

27 Jun 11:16
Well... all of the blood, sweat, and tears from the developers of Team Mach-II has paid off, with  Peter, Kurt, and Matt going non-stop.  Tonight, Mach-II 1.5 Beta is officially released and available for download from the brand spanking new website!

Why should you go to conferences?

26 Jun 22:52
With all of the CFUnited buzz going on this week, I figured it made a nice segway to something I have been giving some thought to lately. That is the question of "why attend these ColdFusion [or insert your own technology here] conferences at all?" For those of us that stay somewhat active in the community the answer is fairly obvious.
